The first big hurdle to a successful cosplay is finding just the right character to play, someone you are vaguely similar too, that you resemble in some way, shape or form. This will make it much easier to connect with your audience. This is one of the keys to a successful cosplay.

So when my daughter finally relented to my persistent nagging and agreed to join in with my madness I had already selected just the right character for her. Only trouble was that her agreement came just two weeks before deadline and I still had my own costume tweaks and modifications to complete. She was also living several hours drive away!
